A Frilled Neck Lizard that was beside the road and ran up the tree to try to hide from us when we got out to take a closer look.

Since the redesign of the photoblog (this is about the third iteration) not all the photos that were originally on the site made it back. Over the next few weeks I’m going to go over my old photos and reprocess and upload them. This will also hopefully give me a chance to see if my Photoshop skills have improved! The reprocessed photos will stay on the front page for a few days, then move to the date when they were originally taken, which is how I usually post.

This photo was taken in December 2008, when my family came up to visit us in Darwin, and we went for a trip to Kakadu National Park. This particular photo was captured at Ubirr Rock, a natural lookout in Arnhem Land. I had just bought the Nikon D90, and remember being particularly fond of the new Active D-Lighting feature. There is a slight yellow cast to this picture, which was what it was like in real life as the sun was setting from behind the camera.

This particular photo was taken in November 2008 on a flight back to Darwin from an outreach clinic on Groote Eylandt. I remember being slightly upset that day because I didn’t get the chance to visit Umbakumba, simply because it had such a cool name!

The scenery at Yellow Waters, Kakadu, Australia is nothing short of spectacular. It makes waking up at 5:30am kinda worthwhile.
